I’m getting ready to get on the road tomorrow to head to Orlando for Disney’s Princess Half Marathon. I’ll be piling in my girlfriend Yvette’s mini-van with her, Nicole and Renee. I love a fun road trip and I’m looking forward to lots of chatting, laughing, and singing – that’s right you’ve got to belt out a good song (or rap tune done in my best Jay-Z voice) on a road trip!
Traveling also means lots of food. Am I the only one who gets hungrier when I’m on the road? Why is that?
Anyway, I’m determined to stay on track to get stronger and leaner; and plan on making smart, wholesome choices while I’m on the go. Yes, I will splurge on a few treats, but overall I will make sure to pick healthy foods most of the time that will get me closer to my goal.
At last week’s McDonald’s Wholesome Choices Blogger kickoff event fitness guru Andrea Riggs shared with us some nutritional tips including eating “lean & green” for dinner. I love that. Making lean protein and green veggies your last meal of the day. She also talked a lot about moderation and balance – two things I definitely believe in. I don’t eat much fast food anymore but I like to know that I have options when I do. I also like that McDonald’s offers a variety of whole-grain oatmeal choices on its breakfast menu that are available all day. The Fruit & Maple Oatmeal and the Apple Cinnamon Walnut Oatmeal are both 100% natural whole grain oats and you can get them without the added brown sugar. I’m not a big oatmeal gal, but I like that its there for a fast food option.
I sampled the oatmeal and some other healthier choices at the event last week. I also chose bottled water instead of fruit juice. Sometimes it’s making those little choices that make a big difference.
I’ll be blogging, tweeting, facebooking and taking lots of pics and videos while I’m on the road. I’ll make sure to share my food and fitness choices along the way.
