I write. I run. I travel.
In no particular, and often at the same time. That’s how I roll.
I recently decided to post more of my marriage, motherhood and travel adventures over at my other site, AskWifey.com. Some of those things will naturally be covered here, but I’m excited to have that outlet, too, as I do my best to find my inner domestic diva and dish more about marriage motherhood and all the mayhem. I feel blessed that I have the opportunity to combine my passion for writing, running, my family life, and traveling; here’s a little background on how they all came to be …
Travel
My parents took me on my first plane ride at 6-months-old and I’ve been on the go ever since. As the daughter of a former flight attendant, I was afforded the opportunity to travel often and that’s exactly what my family did. Spain, Jamaica, and Mexico are just a few of the countries I visited before I blew out the candles on my sixth birthday cake.
Since then I’ve added Italy, France, England, the Netherlands, the Bahamas, Saint Martin, Puerto Rico and countless states across the U.S. to my travel board. I love visiting familiar favorite places – the breathtaking Blue Grotto in Capri, Italy; the beautiful clear water of Jamaica; and the magic of Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando never get old to me. I also love having new experiences – zip-lining in Park City, Utah; running through the streets of Chicago during my second marathon; and making my own Cabernet blend with the Wine Sisterhood in beautiful Napa Valley. One of my favorite travel experiences was my two-week girlfriends getaway that was filmed and featured on the Travel Channel’s hour-long television show, “Great Cruises: Why Not the Mediterranean?” A few excursions on my must do list include a safari in Africa, an Alaskan cruise, court-side seats at the Australian Open, and a visit to my grandfather’s home city in Honduras. I treasure my time traveling and love that I have the opportunity to share my adventures here with you.
Running
For most of my life this former smoker didn’t want to run to the mailbox so completing a marathon wasn’t even in the equation. Now, three marathons, 13 half marathons and countless shorter races later, I can’t imagine my life without running. I love sharing my journey on here on RunWifeyRun.com, where I chronicle my training, fitness, weight loss and even fashion for running. Putting together the right race day outfit is an art. Ahem. I’m also relaunching my Ask Wifey Q&A where I’ll pretty much answer whatever you’d like to know about running, fitness, my weight loss, food, travel, etc. What do you eat before a race, how did you lose your last 5 pounds, what’s your best packing tip, do you stop to pee during a race? Inquiring minds want to know.
Writing
When I was growing up I used to make my mother fume when I’d tell her, “I don’t like to read.” Well, the joke’s on me. Who knew I’d grow up to be an author and freelance writer? Maybe she did. I’ve been writing for national magazines like Upscale and Heart & Soul for more than 10 years; I dove head first in the social media world nearly four years ago; and birthed my first book, Help, I’m a Newlywed … What Do I Do Now? Wife-Saving Advice Every New Bride Must Know to Survive the First Year of Marriage, in 2008. I’m excited to be working on a new book project and will make sure to share the details soon.
