Running — 25 November 2011

Yesterday I ran my 6th half marathon – the Atlanta Half Marathon. This is my third time running this race, in fact it was the first half marathon I ever did. It was 2005 and I had started eating healthier and strength training; and decided I wanted a new challenge. I finished the race – I didn’t even check the time but I’m sure it took over 3 hours – and swore I would NEVER do that again. I loved the accomplishment but the experience was painful.

Now, 2 marathons and 6 half marathons later, I look back at that first race and smile. NEVER is a strong word. I’ve had to eat it several times and it doesn’t always taste good. I didn’t know what I was doing in 2005. Proper training, fueling and great support makes all the difference.

Yesterday I ran with Renee and my Aunt Kristi. It was my Aunt’s  first half marathon and she ROCKED it. It was such a joy to be there with her when she crossed the finish line smiling and looking like she could have kept on going. We finished together in 2:29:27. Here’s a few pics from our day.

Kristi, my Dad – he did the 5K, and me before the race.

Kristi, me and Renee at the start getting ready to run!

I always love running under the Olympic Rings!

All smiles after crossing the finish line. Not to blast out her age but she’s 50. I hope I’m as FABULOUS when I get there. It better run in the genes!

Milan ran the Mashed Potato Mile. I didn’t finish in time to see her but Husband said she was MOVING! I think track is in her future for the spring. She loves running and she’s fast. The love of running she gets from me; the fast must come from Husband.

Renee’s son did the Gravy Gallop. It was a family affair!

Next race is December 11 – Renee and I take on the Rock n Roll Latin Music Miami Half Marathon. Operation Bikini is in full effect!
