Fitness Running Travel — 28 March 2012

It’s NOT-So Wordless Wednesday so I’ll be brief and let my pictures do most of the work. I was already loving Disney’s Fantasy, but when I found out runDisney has a 5K race on Disney’s private island in the Bahamas – Castaway Cay – I honestly considered taking up permanent residency on the ship. I think I would look good with a Disney cast member name badge and some mouse ears. Ahem.

Needless to say I ran the Castaway Cay 5k …

The run was really well organized – we met the race leaders at the sports bar on the ship the morning we docked at Castaway Cay. There were about 30 runners. We signed in, got our race bibs, then jumped ship. Not really, we walked. I’ve just always wanted to say that.

In true Disney fashion, we had a character for our race. Daisy was there to cheer us on and welcome us back when we finished. Fun!

The route took us through a bike path loop, down the island’s airstrip, back through the bike path loop then off to the finish. Everything was clearly marked.

I ran with my girls and follow TravelingMoms – Monique from Mo Travels and Andi from Wife and Mom University.

There was plenty of water along the route. It was 9 a.m. and already hot!

I almost kept running when I saw the beach but stayed focused and made the turn around here.

I’m not the fastest chick on the course, so when the sign told me to slow down I felt obligated to oblige.

It didn’t quite take us 40 minutes, ahem, but that’s when I snapped the picture. There wasn’t an official time but I thought it was really cool that they have the clock running.

Bonus: Daisy blessed us with some bling at the finish! The plastic medal says “Disney Cruise Line” and the ribbon reads “Winner.” Love it!

The race was the perfect way to start my day on Castaway Cay. If you’re on a Disney cruise and have the opportunity to do the race I definitely recommended it for regular runners and newbies, too. It was an easy, flat course; well organized and a fun way to add to the Disney experience.

Winks & Smiles,

Disclosure: There was no extra fee for the race. My cruise accommodations were provided by Disney via TravelingMom.com. As always, my thoughts, opinions and in this case my fantasies are all my own.
