Food Reviews Running — 29 November 2011

As I strive to become healthier (not just lose weight) I’ve been doing more than just running, I’ve been learning more about and experimenting with food. In the past I’ve approached making health changes in my diet negatively. I would think about all of the things that I had to give up instead of thinking about all the good things that I can add to my diet – or even how I can make the things I love healthier and taste better.

Now, I’m embracing change and having fun with it. I’m discovering that I like things I never thought I did – mangoes and guacamole (not together, ahem) – and I’m learning new tricks in the kitchen. Since I drank the FOKlife Kool Aid I also look for healthier brands and read labels in more detail. Breakfast is big for me and lately I’ve been into cereal. When I invited Attune Foods to be a sponsor for my Race & Relax on the Road event I had no idea what products they would send for the swag bags – I just knew it would be healthy because they use simple pure ingredients in all their food. I was super excited when they sent me boxes and boxes of Uncle Sam Strawberry Cereal and Erewhon Organic Rice Cereal for me and the Race & Relax ladies to enjoy.

This one’s my favorite!

I add almond milk and fresh bananas. YUM!

There was a time when I would walk right by a healthy cereal assuming that I wouldn’t like it because it was good for me. There was also a time when I wouldn’t run to the mailbox let alone think about running a marathon. Thank goodness we have the power to change.

Do you resist making changes out of fear or habit? Today I encourage you to think about all the great things and experiences you might be missing out on because you’re standing in your own way; and embrace change.

Winks & Smiles,

Disclosure: Attune Foods was a sponsor for Race & Relax on the Road; as always my thoughts and opinions are all my own.

  1. I have learned to embrace change in many areas of my life. 40 is less than a month away for me and I am determined to have healthier eating habits established for myself before then. Change is good, most of the time, just does not seem like it when you are going through it, but I have no fear of change happening constantly in my life.

    • Thanks, my friend, for sharing! 40 is fabulous. What a wonderful outlook you have. Smiles!

  2. It is just like your parents would tell you – “you don’t know until you tr it”. I find that as I try to make healthier choices, I am eating things I would not have tried before too. It turns out vegetables don’t have to be drowning in butter or cheese to taste good. :) I am with you on the Uncle Sam’s strawberry cereal – too good! I like mine with yogurt.
