Today is National Women’s Checkup Day

As women we’ve been blessed with beautiful, childbearing, voluptuous bodies … bodies that need to be taken care of and checked out by our doctors regularly.

This week is National Women’s Health Week coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health. The theme for this year is “It’s Your Time,” and the goal is to empower women to make health a top priority.

Yes, I LOVE that.

As part of National Women’s Health Week today is National Women’s Checkup Day. When is the last time you had a physical and/or paid a little visit to the gynecologist? You can’t take care of your family properly if you’re not taking care of yourself.

Today I challenge you to lead by example and make sure you’re up to date on all of your wellness exams. If there’s something that you’ve been meaning to have checked call and schedule it now.

It is YOUR time.

Make it a priority to take care of YOU.

Protein Smoothie Recipe Hunt

Breakfast in bed, homemade cards and no fussing. Ahh, can’t everyday be Mother’s Day? Unfortunately, no, but I’m still smiling from a most excellent time yesterday and I’m looking forward to using one of the gifts my little people gave me.

A BlenderBottle. Fun!

Yes, I’m excited to but this baby to good use as I love drinking protein shakes after my strength training workouts but don’t always want to ~~clean~~ use the blender. It will be perfect for when I’m on the go and working out at Atlanta Fitness Diva again. It’s important to feed your muscles protein immediately after working them out (within 30 minutes is ideal).

So now I’m on a protein smoothie recipe hunt. I’ve already found a few from my friends in Udi’s Gluten Free Living Community. I’m a community leader there and even thought I’m not gluten free I’ve found it to be an awesome resource for great recipes, entertaining ideas and we have a blast on our live chats. Peanut butter and bananas seem to be popular in the smoothie thread; oh and lots of berries and greek yogurt, too. You can check them out for yourself at Udi’s Gluten Free Living Community; and if you know of any good protein smoothie recipes please do share. I’m ready to SHAKE things up a bit …

New Series: Fashion Friday

I’m starting a new series, Fashion Friday, because we should all look super-stylish when we’re ~~sweating our asses off~~ glistening as we run, walk, workout, play tennis or do whatever we do to stay active and fit. Once I hit the big 4-0, and lost an unwanted 25 pounds I started to embrace my fabulousness, Ahem, and for the first time in years I’m channeling my inner fashionista. Gasp! I’ve lit up my wardrobe with fun bright colors (yes, I used to hi-tail it to the black rack), will rock blue, green or glitter nail polish in heartbeat and have been known to breakout the sparkles from time to time.

One of my favorite parts of running is putting together that oh so important race day outfit, so I decided to have some fun with fashion and share some of my favorite fitness clothes, accessories, and anything else that makes me smile here.

13 Years Ago Today I Became Wifey

Thirteen years ago today I married my favorite (and only) husband; and became became Wifey. It’s been an amazing journey. Sometimes I still feel like that starry-eyed twenty-something-year-old that dreamed of him proposing so we could get married and start a family; and sometimes in the chaos of that family I feel like how-did-we-get-here-who’s-kids-are-these-and-I-need-a-damn-wife-too.

Oh yes, my friends, marriage isn’t always easy, but it IS worth it.

I love watching this clip of our wedding day on TLC’s “A Wedding Story.” I’ve seen it a gazillion times and it still brings tears to my eyes. We had a BLAST that day and the ride continues …

Napoleon and I took this photo on the beach in Hilton Head this weekend when I surprised him with an anniversary weekend getaway. It’s one of my new favorites.

I’m so grateful for my husband and all that he is for me and our family.

Hilton Head Island: Escape to the Beach

Husband and I are celebrating our 13th anniversary this weekend at the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort at Palmetto Dunes. I surprised him with the trip – he had no idea where we were going until the road signs gave it away. To say he’s happy with the location, and his wife, would be an understatement.

I shot this video this morning when I went for lovely two mile walk on the beach and want to share with you.

It’s Wordless Wednesday so I’ll let my pictures do the talking and give a snapshot of my Disney Social Media Moms Celebration experience …

My chariot to Walt Disney World. A 2012 Crystal Red Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. Pure Awesomeness. Full review coming soon. And, yes, it did turn into a pumpkin when I returned home from my trip. Damn.

Great food …

And great swag. *ahem*

The soirees were superb. We shut down Animal Kingdom.

Expedition Everest at Night was a treat. The kids rode it FOUR times. Gasp!

And, we got a sneak peek inside WDW’s fabulous new resort, Disney’s Art of Animation. Husband had to drag the kids out of the arcade. Literally. This place is the truth.

I don’t think any of us stop smiling all weekend.

I look forward to sharing more about the trip – especially some of the life-changing nuggets of wisdom I walked away with after a full day of phenomenal speakers. Stay tuned …
