Food Weight loss — 10 June 2011

Friday’s Confession … I’ve been slackin’ on the six pack; or should I say sippin’ on it – gasp!

A couple of weeks ago I shared that I needed a new goal to stay focused and that I was going to go for the almighty six pack of abs. While that’s still my goal I haven’t really been acting like it. Summertime fun has set in and so has the summertime schedule; and the summertime beers. Ahem. I’ve had a very go-with-the-flow attitude over the past few weeks and have yet to make a plan. Um, that’s not going to get it done.

My biggest struggle is food. I did hardcore clean eating for 28 days for my birthday goal and it changed the way I approach food. I learned that I could make better food choices, control my portions and be more than satisfied in the process. I also gave up sugar, alcohol and stayed really strict during the process. While I can see myself doing that again at some point in the future it’s not a good everyday plan for me. I need some balance for the summertime; and to make sure that balance doesn’t get too out of control. Here are three ways I plan to do that.

Try NEW Recipes. Yup, I could eat the same thing everyday and often do. There are so many DELICIOUS healthy recipes and easy access to them via blogs, websites and magazines – I have no more excuses!

I just got a subscription to Clean Eating and LOVE it!

DOCUMENT My Choices. I’ve never been one to keep a food journal but planning out my meals and taking some pretty pictures of them is fun – and helpful! Keeping track of what I eat, and drink, ahem, will keep me accountable and will help me figure out what is working for me and what isn’t.

Stay PREPARED. I’ve been to the grocery store four times this week and have NO groceries in my house. Huh? I can’t just shop by the meal, I need a list, a plan and one damn trip to the store. I also need to carry a cooler with me so I always have something good to eat. When I’m starving and have nothing healthy in front of me bad choices take over.

My sister bought me this cute little cooler for my birthday. It looks like a purse!

I’m excited to take on this food challenge and figure out how to have BOTH six packs.  How about you? Anyone else have some good balancing tips? Me and my future abs would love to know …

  1. I’m glad I’m not the only one who is constantly at the grocery store yet never has anything to eat at home. I think the biggest challenge for everyone is time. In a perfect world we wouldn’t have to work and we could spend all day planning each meal, etc. hmmmm…..*dashing off to play the lottery*

    • You’re so NOT alone! And, play some numbers for me – smiles!

  2. I hear you on summer! It is sooo much harder to stay “clean” – gotta find the balance!

    • They do have organic beer. I’m just sayin.

  3. Cute lunch bag! I have a similar one that a friend gave me for my birthday! I love it!

And I’ve been eyeing that magazine everytime I go to the grocery store. Are there lots of recipes in it that I wouldn’t have to run to the store for a bunch of expensive ingredients?

Good luck on keeping eating in line. I seem to have that problem as well. I can be good, but it is so much easier to be bad!

    • I’m just getting into the magazine but what I’ve seen so far is doable! Getting ready to pick out a recipe now. Smiles!

  4. Well, I already have a six pack. But it’s buried deep under 3 pregnancies, 2 C-sections, lots of hamburgers and fries, and a whole lotta Coca Cola.

    • LOL! I feel you. I’m still blaming my kids for mine.

  5. The planning meals thing is so hard when you have crazy schedules – I try planning ahead but so often the plan changes and then the food I purchased sits there …. I have a mental block about the time it takes to cook lol I’ve cut alcohol down to two glasses of wine or beer a week while training for this marathon but the biggest thing for me is giving up sugar, if I can get that out of my system I seem to be fine. It’s all or nothing with sugar! lol Go six pack abs…. I have them from all of the yoga/pilates I do – only problem is that there’s a layer of fat on top :p lmao

    • The food sitting there happens to me, too. And, sugar is B*tch! LOL!

  7. I love the tips you gave, especially the clean eating magazine. I need to prepare meals ahead of time to have a successful week but with work stress right now I’ve been slacking. Thanks for the motivation!

    Good luck this week! :)
