Last night the NFL Season official started, but I’ve been getting ready for football for several weeks now.
Mentally and physically.
Oh, yes. This IS serious. It’s not just a game at the Robertson House.
There’s nothing in this world that could rival the love, dedication and passion my husband has for me and his beautiful children.
BUT, the one thing that comes pretty damn close is his five-time Super Bowl Champion San Francisco 49ers.
No, he’s not from San Francisco, he actually grew up clear across the country in Pennsauken, New Jersey, but he’s been a fan for more than 30 years. Two legendary 49ers, Dwight Hicks and John Taylor (John is best known for catching the touchdown-winning pass from Joe Montana in Super Bowl XXIII. Yes, I know many 49er facts by association and could win BIG on trivia night. BIG.) played football at Pennsauken High School – where Husband also took the field years later. Both Husband and John also played college ball for Delaware State University – where Husband’s team won a championship. On top of that, one of Husband’s friends and college teammates, Rod Milstead, went on to play in the NFL for several teams including the 49ers.
So, the history runs deep. Pennsauken is a small town where everybody knows everybody and hometown pride can even motivate you to stay loyal to a team 30 years later and 2,500 miles away.
Last year was bitter sweet. The 49ers found themselves back at the Super Bowl but came up short. This year is promising – and will be easy to watch – with
cutie Colin Kaepernick leading the way.
Mentally, I’ve been getting ready to be a good, patient and supportive football-fanatic’s wife.
Not only do I make sure that the schedule is clear, the wings are warm, and the beer is cold when the Niners are on TV, but it’s important to have the right gear – plates, cups, seat cushions, shot glasses, etc – around, and of course he’ll need to have the right San Fran T-Shirt clean and ready to wear. I’m not sure which one that will be this year. Yes, he has many and normally sticks with one for the season. But, we’re not superstitious. Ahem.
It’s a fun time for us. Even the kids get involved.
Given my family’s passion for sports, I was definitely game when my friends at VolunteerSpot asked me to share info about BRAX Fundraising, a company dedicated to helping schools and youth sports teams exceed their fundraising goals.

And, yes I was eyeing the San Fran cups in the BRAX picture above. Ahem.
So, wish me luck as I’m getting ready for football and the next six months of San Francisco 49er insanity.
Winks & Smiles,
