I rocked my first Crossfit workout today. Boom!

Now that it’s over I can admit I was scared. Gasp! Yup, I’m no punk – in fact I used to be a certified personal trainer – but there’s something about the intensity of Crossfit workouts that made me a tad bit concerned that I might not be able to do it. Silly me. Like anything else they have modified workouts for all levels. Everyone isn’t expected to do 50 Box jumps from their knees (is that even possible?)

My friend and running buddy, Renee, gifted me a month to Crossfit Breaking Boundaries so I could get to work on finding my abs. What a good friend she is. Little did I know when I walked through their door this morning that I would be flipping 65 pound tires and sprinting through their parking lot. Oh, did I forget to add 50 dips on the tire per set. Um, yes we did five sets. Here’s how it worked …

There were three relay teams of 4-5 people. The big guns got the big 500 pound tire. The other two teams had 65 pound tires. One person from each team sprinted down to the end of the parking lot, touched the curb and sprinted back. Then we took turns flipping the tire all the way to the curb and back; and topped it off with 50 dips. Fun. This WOD (workout of the day) was the brainchild of the owner, Larry. He and the rest of the folks there made me feel welcome and encouraged me on. We completed our 5 sets in 42 minutes and some change.

I made friends with the smaller, 65 pound tire on the right. And, yes we went all the way down to the curb by those buildings at the end of the lot.

I was exhausted but felt empowered and excited that I did it.

You might be surprised how much you can do when you step outside your comfort zone and push yourself a little.
