To think there was a time that I didn’t like to go to the spa – GASP! I know. It’s hard for me to understand myself. Fortunately for me, and my body, I got older and wiser and now will jump at the chance (literally I might jump) to spend an hour or two relaxing at a good spa.
That’s exactly what I did yesterday. I was invited by the lovely folks at Spa Week to indulge at the Bluefern Spa & Salon – a charming independent spa located outside Atlanta in Suwanee, Georgia. Spa Week is a bi-annual event that offers luxurious full-service spa treatments at some of the finest spas across North America for just $50 each. Um, score! It’s happening next week, October 15-21. You can learn more about it at SpaWeek.com.
OK, back to the Bluefern Spa & Salon. It was FABULOUS. Absolutely fabulous. It’s a small spa, they have five treatment rooms and a three chair salon, but offer a wide array of services with competitive prices. While large chains have their appeal there’s also something special about boutique businesses that offer personalized attention. From the moment I walked in the door I felt pampered and certain that they wanted to make sure I had the best experience possible.
First I had a Pomegranate Facial. Alma, the medical esthetician and massage therapist really knew her craft and analyzed my skin before moving forward with the facial. I haven’t had many facials so I really appreciate that she took the time to explain things to me. She complimented my skin, but almost choked when I told her I only use soap and water. Gasp! Apparently, it’s been working but I need to consider a good cleanser and moisturizer; oh and of course sun screen. She said this facial would make me glow and I swear it did. I was super relaxed because she massaged my shoulders, back, arms and hands during the facial – and I still had an hour massage to enjoy next.
I took a quick pic between treatments.
Deanna took over after my facial and delivered the most wonderful aromatherapy massage. I chose Inspire – it smelled so pleasant and uplifting – then spent the next hour letting her work all of the stress and soreness out of my body.
My post spa pic. I think my face says it all.
I’ve stepped up my training this week – I did upper-body and abs before my appointment – so my visit to the Bluefern Spa & Salon was perfect timing.
Any other spa gals out there?
Winks & Smiles,
Disclosure: My treatments were provided by Spa Week. As always, my thoughts and opinions are all my own.

I love the spa. I had the same thing happen to me about seven years ago during my first facial. I only use soap and water and it was recommended that I use a cleanser and moisturizer. I have since adopted the practice. I love Bliss Spa Foaming Face Wash, followed by Dickinson’s Witch Hazel, then my finish is Olay Complete Moisturizer with SPF 30. By the way, I haven’t had a facial since then

I went to the spa last weekend. I got a full body massage and laughed my way through the entire thing. I’m so dag on ticklish.
