Happy New Year!

I had a WONDERFUL 2011 – there were some incredible moments and some teachable moments, too – a highlight post is coming soon. I’m excited for 2012 and I’m looking forward to continuing my quest to move from Good to GREAT.

This is the year of the F’s for me. I’ll be focusing on Family, Fitness, Food, Finances and Fun; and I’ll be chronicling it all here on Run Wifey Run. Over the holidays I’ve been on a little hiatus from running and blogging and I’m happy to return refreshed, renewed and ready to go! I’ll share more details about my 5 F’s in a post this week complete with goals and plans, but for now I’ll share some pics from my first 2012 run – the Atlanta Track Club’s PT Solutions Resolution 5K Run.

Thank goodness the run didn’t start until 11 a.m. Yes, I was up toasting in the New Year with a sip of champagne. I woke up at 8 a.m. and had time to have one of my favorite morning eats – a bowl of Kashi Go Lean Crunch, Almond Milk and bananas!

My sister, Nicole, and I signed up for this run together. She’s training for her first half marathon -Disney’s Princess in February. Fun!

We ran into my girlfriend, Yvette, who was taking on the 10K. Truthfully, I didn’t want to over-commit in case I over-indulged the night before. Ahem.

It was an easy 3 miles and it felt GREAT to be running again. I know it was only a few weeks since I was running on the beach in Miami, but it felt like forever.

Afterwards, they had bagels, pretzels and these bars for everyone. I never had one before – it tastes pretty good.  I have to look closer at the nutritional contents but at a quick glance it seemed OK.

I got a long sleeve T-shirt, too. I like the baby blue color. It’ll be a great lounging shirt.

Before I left the house this morning I put some black-eye peas in the crock pot – it’s one of the few New Years traditions I follow. I’m getting ready to find a good, healthy recipe to make for dinner tonight to go with them and to start the year off right. I’m thinking scallops, but we’ll see …

  1. Happy New Year! You really did start the year off right with a run. I’m not sure about starting a running plan this year, but I do have to get back into exercising again.

    • Thanks; and yes, get that exercise going – it doesn’t have to be running, choose something that you’ll enjoy doing! Cheering you on … smiles!

  2. Happy New Year! I really enjoy reading your blogs. Thank you for all the great information, inspiration and advice. One quick question. I would like to lose a little extra weight also and curious what nutritional changes you made to your diet to help lose your weight?

    Thanks!

    • Happy New Year to you, too! And, thank you for your kind words! I’m so glad that you are enjoying RWR. The major changes that I made center around eating clean, whole foods. I cut out a lot of sugar, soda, white rice, white pasta and a lot of processed foods. I also pay attention to portion sizes and eat several small meals throughout the day. You will see me splurge because i don’t believe in depriving myself! I plan on sharing more details about my diet and food choices on RWR moving forward. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions. Smiles!

  3. Great! Thank you for your response! That’s very helpful!
