Yesterday I set foot on the tennis court with the highest-ranking American tennis pro, John Isner, during a tennis clinic he gave for approximately 30 local teens. Tennis is up there with running as one of my favorite activities so I jumped when the folks at Coca-Cola invited me to come see the clinic held at the BB&T Atlanta Open courts at Atlantic Station. Isner is in town for the USTA tournament and will be heading to London to play in the Olympics in less than a week. While I didn’t play, I did pay close attention as he shared some secrets about his best weapon – his serve. Isner hit with the teens for a little over an hour, serving and playing King of the Court. Fun!

John in full-swing showcasing his killer serve.

The teens had a ball playing with John.

John is a part of the The 2012 Coca-Cola 8-Pack of Athletes serving as Coca-Cola “Ambassadors of Active Living” to help encourage and inspire people to lead active, balanced lives. LOVE that.

He shared with me the importance of taking care of yourself, of nutrition, and staying hydrated – especially in the summer heat.

“If you want to be an athlete, if you want to be good at what you do you have to take care of your body.” – John Isner

Husband caught me in action talking with John while he signed autographs.

I’m so glad my family had the chance to come and meet him, too. We’re looking forward to cheering him on in the Olympics. (I can’t help but point out how tall he is. I’m 5’11″ and barely reached his shoulder – gasp!)

While we were there we caught a sneak peek at Tennis great Andy Roddick practicing on the main court.

  1. Lorraine… Great post!
John was just up our way last weekend winning his second straight Hall of Fame Tennis Championship here in Newport, RI. Missed him this year with Jane and Brian’s wedding and all but Sharon and I saw him here last year.

    Great photos too!

    • Thanks, Barry! He was awesome … and tall! Glad you liked the pics; and congrats again on the wedding! Smiles!
