Running — 07 November 2011

Have you ever had a weekend that was so good it’s hard for you to put it in words? (Yes, I know I’m a writer – ahem.) Well, this was definitely one of those weekends.

In addition to having an AWESOME race – yay, I PR’d – I met some AMAZING women who came together, many of us strangers, for my Race & Relax on the Road event at the Rock n Roll Savannah Marathon & Half Marathon and walked away bonded as we shared our running journeys and cheered each other on. Women of different ages, ethnic backgrounds, locations and fitness levels, brought together by this wonderful thing called running. We discovered interesting things about each other and ourselves; and each one of us crossed that finish line triumphantly.

Instead of writing a super long post I’ll share a peek into the weekend with some pictures until I get my video done. You know a video is coming, right?

The Race & Relax Beauties before our pre-race dinner at the Chart House.

Not only did we get our eat on; but we had a special surprise guest – John “The Penguin” Bingham came by to chat with us about running!

While the city had some logistical traffic challenges, ahem, the race itself was AWESOME. The runners and spectators were full of great energy!

It was a great morning for running – chilly and sunny!

I had an AMAZING race. I felt great and shaved 3 minutes off of my best half. 2:26:28. Hot Damn! “I’m PRing!” That’s what I yelled to my sister in this picture.

We enjoyed VIP treatment courtesy of the American Cancer Society DetermiNation Program and the Competitor Group.

Kelsie, Lindsey and Rachel flashing their new BLING!

Nadia, Renee and me. They PR’d, too!

I stopped by the DetermiNation VIP tent to say hello. I ran with DetermiNation for the Chicago Marathon and raised more than $1,000 to help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. It was one of my most rewarding accomplishments!

We surprised the ladies with drinks, food and lots of goodies at the celebratory lunch at The Pirate House.

Sara showing off her new trophy. She’s such a rockstar!

They all received personalized Go Sport ID bands, SPIbelts, wine from the Wine Sisterhood and lots of other treats in their swag bags!

But, I think the biggest gift was the support, camaraderie and satisfaction of finishing those miles! Cheers!

A huge thank you to my Race & Relax on the Road sponsors the American Cancer Society DetermiNation Program, Wine Sisterhood and Degree Women for supporting women on the run. I’d also like to thank Attune Foods and all the other wonderful companies that rewarded the ladies with an abundance of swag – RunDisney, Chica Bands, SPIBelt, Go Sport Id, Cascal, Sof Sole, and Skincare for Athletes.

T from Racing With Babes put together some AWESOME race plans for the gals! She couldn’t join us in Savannah because she was busy crushing the NY Marathon. Kudos and thanks!

And, of course I’d like to thank the wonderful ladies that participated in Race & Relax on the Road.

Heather, Jama, Karen and Jesica weren’t with us throughout the weekend but they were definitely a big part of this group!

Sonja, Rachel, Lindsey, Kelsie, Renee, Yvette, Shannon, Darlene, Doretha, Pam, Sara, Nadia, Kimberly, Nicole, Christie and Tarryn – thank you all for sharing a piece of your running adventure with me.

Winks & Smiles,
