Food Travel Weight loss — 31 October 2012

I’ve been traveling a lot lately which has the potential to wreck my fitness goals – especially when it comes to food. There can be many temptations when you’re out of your element. At home I take my favorite junk food out of the equation by not keeping it in my house. If I don’t have chips sitting on my counter begging me to eat them it won’t happen. I’ll choose the healthier option I’ve put into play.

Too many times I’ve left myself vulnerable when I hit the road by not bringing good eats with me. When I’m rushing or only have access to a small, expensive selection of food in a hotel gift shop I might end up picking something I wish I hadn’t. I’ve been working really hard to reach my goals, I’m not ready to unravel my progress because I took a trip.

Here are 5 healthy foods to take on the go with you. They all can go easily on planes, trains or automobiles.

Fruit – Apples and bananas are easy grab and go snacks. Make sure you’ve got a plastic bag to store the core or peel until you can throw it out.

Nuts – I’m an almond girl. I buy the pre-packaged snack packs or scoop a handful into a sandwich bag to take with me.

Protein Powder – There are individual packets you can buy or pre-measure what you need into travel cup so all you need to do is add water.

Healthy Bars – I keep Clif bars, Larabaras or Luna bars with me when I know I might miss a meal. I also like to make my own bars when I have time. Ahem.

Oatmeal or Cereal – Bring oatmeal packets or serving size bags of your favorite healthy cereal. You should be able to get hot water or milk on the plane or at store when you’re ready to chow down.
